    Artist description
Bahana (Lost White Brother) is based in New Mexico (The Land of Enchantment). Growing up in the SouthWest, Bahana was influenced by the desert around him. Life is different in the desert, and Bahana's music expresses that state of mind. I dedicate this CD to the late Preston Monongye and the people of Hotevilla. On my quest for understanding of the world and its ancient ways, I had the distinct honor of meeting Preston in 1977. I was invited into his home and lived with him and his family for almost two years. In that time I learned about silversmithing, but more importantly learned about the Hopi people. At least once a month we traveled from his home in Paradise valley, to Hotevilla, his home of birth and family. At that time his father, Grandfather David, was still alive. Many days and nights were spent hearing the beliefs and stories of Hopi creation and prophecy. It was then that I learned of Pahana, or Bahana and the role the white race plays in the changes in this world. As we near the millenium the message of the Hopi prophecies becomes more pertinent. We are at a crossroad now and must decide where our hearts lie. Will the white race be the demise of the world as we know it, or will we seize the opportunity to be a positive influence? As the younger Hopis are taken away from their homeland and the teachings of the elders, tragically the message has been muted. We as a people must now pay attention to the message Hopi brings us. Not to say that we should live totally like them, but heed the warnings of what it is we have done to our Mother Earth. I am but a novice when it comes to explaining and understanding the inner workings of Hopi culture but there are several good books written on the subject. One is " Hotevilla, Hopi Shrine of the Covenant" by Thomas E. Mails and Dan Evehema. And of course "The Book of the Hopi" by Frank Waters. Serious seekers of the Hopi message may gain much knowledge from these books. As the Hopi await the true Pahana, I feel we as a people must do what we can to collectively embrace that spirit of Pahana, the lost white brother. I call upon my brothers of all nations, colors, and religions to accept the challenge to be as one. To truly live the path of our talk. With the coming of the new age this is the time of Heaven on Earth. A place of tolerance and acceptance, forgiveness and humility, love and graceful bliss. All we need do is agree.
