Artist History
Solemite began as an excuse to get drunk and laid
in the summer of 2000. A debut EP was recorded in
the winter of 2000 and though it went on to sell
over 2000 copies the band didn't get too serious
until 2002. By that time all 5 members had quit
their day jobs and begun perfecting the sound that
would become 2003's debut release "The Reason You
Own A Stereo" Recorded entirely by the band itself in
their West Oakland basement and produced
by Pailboy Productions' Johnny Genius &
Y-bot, the album has already created a buzz in
the San Francisco Bay Area underground where
the band regularly packs them in at Local venues.
Known For their energetic live show and catchy tunes,
Solemite is poised to take over the world.

Press Reviews
The Reason You Own a Stereo
"For a taste of what the five East Bay boys known as Solemite are cooking up, simply take a hunk of '80s power pop, stir in a healthy dose of electronic music, pepper it with a little angst and turn up the volume. The West Oakland-based group has infused this ten-song collection with so much dance potential that you'll find it a challenge to sit still while you listen. Standouts include "Awful Pair" with its swirling vocals and vortex-inducing keyboards, the highly caffeinated guitar intro to "Without Your Love," and "Pretty Package," which could easily have been inspired by the Tubes. A true musical extension of the Reagan-era without the bad aftertaste."
Ron Evans - SF Weekly LISTEN UP! 2003
"The Reason You Own A Stereo begins with blips as if the filmstrip (ok, so I'm old enough to refer to filmstrips, so what) in third grade Social Studies class was about to begin. Then the keyboards hit. Mixed up front, and very obvious, keyboards are a main part of the Solemite sound. The overall sound is somewhere between an indie Smashmouth and a composite blend of Men Without Hats, The Outfield, and the remainder of musicians on the Vice City soundtrack.
Clocking in at just over 33 minutes, this record is a superb representation of a band that is mature beyond their time together." Derrick Henderson, NowOnTour.com |
