Artist description
The Sluggers play Old-Time Southern dance music as well as Cajun tunes. As a Cajun band, The Happy Valley Sluggers perform the Cajun two-steps and waltzes which eminate from the dancehalls and roadhouses that dot the countryside of southwest Louisiana. It’s definitely dance music. One simply cannot sit still while listening to the compelling back-beat of a Cajun 2-step. But wait, there’s more! The Happy Valley Sluggers also play driving, dancable fiddle tunes from the Southern Appalacian mountains and sweet old-time country vocals from “the golden age of country music”.Long-time fixtures in the Northwest folk scene, both individually and as a group, the Sluggers are much in demand for country dances and festivals throughout the region. |

Artist History
These folks have played together in various forms over the past 20 years, and decided in 1990 that it was far too much fun not to do anything about it. The band has played at The Northwest Folklife Festival in 1998 and 2000, many contra/square dances along the Seattle-Vancouver corridor and as artists-in-residence at several folk dance camps over the years. |
