Artist History
Hi there!
AURORA K is something special from Helsinki, Finland. You could say that AURORA K play melodic hard rock but that’s not the whole truth. Rather, the band balances somewhere in the holy triangle of metal, rock and pop, with the style and touch of their own.
AURORA K was founded late 1999 by the guitarist / songwriter Johnny A. The band started as a one-guy-two-girls trio but soon the line-up was completed with yet another female, singer Katriina whose low and sexy voice is something one seldom encounters in hard rock circles. Nowadays, Katriina and Johnny are the only original members.
In September 2000, the original female dominated quartet recorded its first demo. The three demo songs were listed on the famous mp3.com music site late that year and soon (in Dec.) Rosalie, a medium tempo ballad, hit #1 on the overall METAL CHART of Mp3.com!! That was a major achievement for an unsigned and still quite unknown band like AURORA K.
In 2001, the band performed about 30 gigs in Finland and experienced some line-up changes whereupon Katriina and Johnny have carried on with temporary rhythm sections and their trusted new female keyboard player, Suvi Salo.
In April 2002, AURORA K released its first official single called 11th Hour in co-operation with a small Finnish record label called Soundmen Records. The single has brought in very positive reviews and on top of Europe there’s been airplay as far as Australia and Canada. “If ever a melodic hard rock band had a chance to re-energize this style in the United States Aurora K would be a stronger contender.” [Review by The Pure Rock Shop, USA]
Early 2002, the band also shot a video of 11th Hour and it was included on the CD single as well. The video has received good reception in Finland (even though it was done with a low budget). The MoonTV has showed it and SF Perkele metal site featured it as the “Video of the Week”. It was also the “Video of the Month” at the Soundi Magazine’s web portal. The feedback from abroad has also been very encouraging and flattering. “There's even a multimedia track, with the amazing video of "11th Hour", which footage could smash up 90% of the other metal videos of today. [Review by The Babylon Magazine, Italy]
So far, AURORA K has appeared well over 80 times in front of live audiences in bigger and smaller cities in Finland and, is thus, gaining more and more enthusiastic fans. The band is dedicated to work hard enough to get a major league record deal sooner or later because they have great rock songs in store that are screaming to get out there. The band’s debut album is scheduled to be released sometime 2003. All parties interested in licensing and/or distributing it, are welcomed to contact AURORA K now!
AURORA K WILL COME AND PLAY ALSO IN YOUR CITY – SOONER OR LATER!

“If ever a melodic hard rock band had a chance to re-energize this style in the United States Aurora K would be a stronger contender.” Review by T.P.R.S. (The Pure Rock Shop, USA, June 2002)
“For such a small band everything is represented in a very professional way...excellent cover, good production. Aurora K should be a nice chance for success, I mean ...why should it always be American or British bands that are seen as important? Try a Finnish band for a change and start with Aurora K!” – Review by Didier Becu, (The Original Sin, Belgium, May 2002)
“I would be very curious to hear more material from this band with a better production. With a better sound it would be awesome!!!!” – Review by Patrick Dumas, (The Darkest Hours, Canada, May 2002)
“There's even a multimedia track, with the amazing video of "11th Hour", which footage could smash up 90% of the other metal videos of today, because of its high images quality.” Review by Riccardo Maffiodo, (The Babylon Magazine, Italy, July 2002)
