Artist History Zen the Alien, from So. Cal Singer\Songwriter Michael Bedik was living in Seattle playing in a Seattle band doing gigs with other Seattle bands ( Sound Garden , Alice n Chains etc. ) when he decided it was sunshine he needed - so he loaded up the van and moved to LA. He wound up living in Daves sound-proof garage, and from there concentrated on meeting a slew of LA musicians, eventually forming the band Swamp Boogie Queen. After relentlessly playing the LA music scene they finally secured a momentous recording contract with the pope of pop: Phil Ramone. Phil Ramone loved the song stylings of Michael Bedik, and they immediately went about producing a record along with Elliot Scheiner, another Grammy winning producer. Unfortunately the band didn’t survive the recording industry crash of ’97. But not without some minor success along the way; Michael got songs on the radio, songs placed in the hit TV show Melrose Place and in rotation for 97 Winter Olympics on ABC TV (Keep On). Yes, the royalty checks where truly Heaven sent - often just in time to pay some dark, foreboding bill like rent or the DWP. This freed him up for just long enough to get Zen the Alien together. Much of the material, the songs, and the vision etc. actively existed in his fertile imagination even during the sessions with Phil Ramone. He just needed a great bassest and drummer. Enter: great Bassist Brittany Pedersen. Originally from Montana, she was chased down the street by a large bear while riding her bike home from school one day. This undoubtedly had a real effect on her; as soon after she began listening to music like Black Sabbath and AC\DC. Because of her less than tragic childhood she was easily able to step in and whip things into shape, helping Michael build the studio and find a drummer.Found: Drummer Shane Mayo. Not much is really known about found drummer Shane Mayo, except that he’s from the south side of Chicago and is probably on the lam.Zen the Alien the music, the future… Zen the Alien falls into the Alternative Rock category. Their modern heroes are bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Blur, Everclear: even really new bands like Disturbed.. Their influences from the past are Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Neil Young, Black Sabbath, AC\DC, Nirvana, etc. Put it all together and you get ZTA! Without sounding contrived, this is the real stuff. Anyone who loves good song-oriented rock loves Zen the Alien. The band and the music are the genuine article.Zen the Alien is actively playing gigs, expanding their fan base, recording and making efforts to connect with people within the industry.
