Artist History
Suicide Note sprang from the ashes of Failsafe, a band that played metallic hardcore in the "Region" (Northwest Indiana) for the better part of the mid to late '90s. The band was growing tired of the Failsafe moniker and vocalist Keith so they proceeded t o change the line-up and name, therefore gaining a fresh attitude and renewed enthusiasm towards their music. The band at the time consisted of: Jason Gagovski (who also played drums in Chicago's sxe heroes Extinction), Jay Golday (who now sports his deg r ee in Jazz Guitar from Indiana University), and Bob Peele (who's been in bands such as Gadje and Birthright as well as being the editor of the zine, the [mag]). They added a good friend of the band, Casey Donely, on vocals and the foursome then seemed c om plete. They completely scrapped all of their previous songs and started writing new material with a new feel and direction. Not afraid to throw some melody into their noisy brand of hardcore, the band shows that it is still possible to have a fresh tak e on modern music and the hardcore scene. They recorded eight songs in the fall of 1999 in Indianapolis and prepared a demo tape that sold hundreds of copies in a matter of months. Most of the songs have now found home on various releases as well includin g: a split 7" with Sever the Cord (on Hawthorne Street Records), an appearance on the comp CD Decline of Midwestern Civilization that features Keelhaul, Craw and Season to Risk, tracks on two compilations from Indiana (Happy Couples Never Last and Ape Rec ord s), and a split 7" with Knives and Greenwater (on One Day Savior Records). The band has been playing the midwest fairly regularly and have appeared on stage with the likes of: Converge, Isis, Turmoil, Cave-In, Bane, Grade, Reach the Sky, the Hope Conspiracy, Kill Holiday, Orchid, the Blood Brothers, Songs of Zarathustra and a ton of others.
Recently the band went out to Boston to record with Kurt Ballou (Converge) at his God City Studios for the release, "Come On Save Me" on HAwthorne Street Records. Thsi CD EP contains 6 tracks of our best material and has been garnering much acclaim across the US with the media and fans alike. y |

Press Reviews
Forget what you know about metal or hardcore. Just throw it out the window before you put this album on. This band will raise your expectations regarding either genre... These guys are prophets of some sort, they know the direction this music is going and they're way ahead of most of the game. -NUVO Newsweekly (Indianapolis).
This is an excellent, excellent demo, the kind you want to own. Believe me, i'm not lying. Everything about this is great from the artwork to the recording to the music itself. The re are only 3 songs on here, which may be the only downside. Suicide Note p lay two fast, furious, pissed off songs of modern hardcore that will blow you away. The third song is more of a ballad, but its not the pretty radio kind. Watch out for their split with Sever the Cord, plus the have songs on a number of upcoming compilations. - Heart Attack Fanzine.
I've been getting a lot of demos of late that make a lot of professional full-lengths look like shit. This being one of them. Suicide Note hail from Indiana, and approach things in the Turmoil, take no prisoners style, though this band sounds more menacing, and threatening. But they don't sound like some evil metal band. Instead it's like being attacked by a neanderthal with wit. Using intelligent gui tar effects, and an urgent pace, and washing the entire thing over in mountai ns of feedback and distortion the impression is a lasting one. Then a third and final song that makes incredible use of being silent to loud tense and cascading. A great first a ttempt, and I look forward to more soon. - Hanging Like a Hex Fanzine.
Fuck man. I've listened to that CD like 300 times already. I honestly like that fuckin' thing alot. If it doesn't get picked up by someone and shit bands like Drowning Man do... there's a major fuckin' problem. You guys definitely have your shit together. I usual ly don't ever like bands anymore, but hell, that CD is fucking sick. It just goes and goes and goes. You should tour alot... and force it down people?s throats because I think you guys could get really big, really big. Cool Bob. You're a dork but your bands awesome. - Jamie from TURMOIL.d |
