Artist description
The Growth was formed in San Juan, Puerto Rico in late 1966, an offshoot of Dan Nix (late of Ronny and The Daytonas) and The Spacemen. Weaned on The Music Machine, The Leaves and The Troggs, the band’s thundering rhythm, bred in their rehearsal space deep in the dungeons of 16th century El Morro Castle quickly established them as San Juan’s premier band. Managed by local celebrity DJ Glen A. Durst, the boys took over the airwaves of the island in’66 with ”Try It, Baby!!” and several other hits. Today listening to the band play live on this disc, it is truly hard to believe the outright insanity the band created in their audience as they played throughout the island. Listen again for the first time to the energy that was, The Growth!Tito Puente 1998 |
