    Artist History
SPUN hails from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. They originated in May of 1996 as a joke side-project of local hardcore grind favorites, Molotov Children. Jay (vocals) and Mike (guitar) were experiencing frustration as a result of the delay in recording the upcoming MC demo, and recruited Casual Slacks/Fazmen/first generation MC drummer, Justin (drums.) Jay and Mike, then currently getting into Earache Records-noise band AC (Anal Cunt) wanted SPUN's musical direction to follow the road AC had paved. During their first jam, they recorded "The Caffeine Experience". 33 Tracks of hardcore blast/noise insanity were created, meshed with Sesame Street and cartoon samples; for example: "Kate is Hardcore", "Close Only Counts in Horseshoes and Handgrenades", "Die Bitch Die" and others. During an open stage night, at the 10 Day Cafe, the band, having all their instruments with them, played a short 15 minute set, to the 10 Day Cafe patrons' dismay.Months later, in August, Jay and Justin re-discovered the lost tapes of "The Caffeine Experience" and decided the potential for silliness was still present, and SPUN proceeded to then record the trippier and more visceral, "Caffeine Flashbacks." This time the band took a step further musically, with 29 more classics including "Die Commie Bitch", "I Hate Master T", "Alyssa Milano" and the uncompromisingly stupid, "Exploding Pens". As well, SPUN started to pave the way for their own style, versus simply paying tribute to AC. In late August, a few tapes were distributed as "The SPUN Experience" containing all 72 tracks of "The Caffeine Experience", "Live at the 10 Day" and "Caffeine Flashbacks". The band played another short set at the 10 Day Cafe on September 13, 1996, this time receiving a much more flattering response. SPUN, quickly needing an outlet for frustration, recorded the noisy-earth shattering "Napkin Sessions Vol.1", named after a napkin full of titles Mike had written out. (None of those titles were used for the demo, but nonetheless...). 19 more tracks of insanity, featuring SPUN and new SPUN-recruit Kim Baarda, were churned out in the process, musically heading towards a more experimental-noise oriented sound, only for experimentation for that demo. (However technical difficulties restricted the extent to which Kim appeared on the album...) Although "The Napkin Sessions" strayed from the 'true SPUN sound', "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service", and "Fuck Shit Dick Cunt" quickly became staples in SPUN's live set. SPUN also started the first swarm of full-length live performances in February, attacking "The Braincell" in Stratford, and "Taxandria", Arkona.
