Artist History
The name Asaph was chosen because of its praise and worship emphasis.
Asaph was king David’s chief musician. Twelve psalms are accredited to him. He was a notable musician, poet and prophet.
The first album "Highways to Zion" was recorded in 1984. This was subsequently followed by two more albums over the next 2 years.
The most recent development in Ray’s songwriting features intimate worship, and may be found at http://mp3.com/RayWatsonSecretPlace. |

Press Reviews
“Dire Straits has demonstrated the potential for stillness and emptiness in rock music. In “Tunnel of Love” or “Brothers in Arms” that stillness is desolate, even post-apocalyptic. “Throne of Love” has something of the same quality to it. But the stillness has been transmuted to rest and peace – it is not desolate but consummatory, the result of being in God’s presence and gazing at him. There are many special moments on this excellent cassette, which, like Asaph’s previous release, weds a focus on praise and worship with a creatively arranged and instrumented sound. Ray Watson and his group of musicians and top-flight singers present quality contemporary music which incorporates elements of rock, jazz and classical, presided over by Watson’s soft Garfunkel-like vocals. The result is a thoroughly satisfying, totally professional unique contribution to Christian music in this country.” The Shaker ( NZ review of “Throne of Love” ) |
