Artist History
In 1993, Carol Thomas envisioned ONE & TWENTY. Pouring her emotions into her father's old nylon string, Thomas' songcraft combines thoughtful, revealing words with hard strummed, melodic chord progressions. The 1998 Lilith Fair Talent Search Finalist anchors ONE & TWENTY with her pipes of searing beauty, and rock 'n roll badass bravado. Think Grace Slick meets Bessie Smith meets funk.
Bassist Jon Chazen joined the fold in 1999. Jon, a native of Buffalo, NY; brings solid, funky, in-the-pocket play, coupled with a creative ear for chord harmony--not to mention amazing stage presence. He's a joy to watch and hear. Guitarist Spiro Theofilatos, an accomplished producer and writer, adds diverse songwriting talent, plus guitar work that creates a wash of sound textures. His sound adds the raunchy punch that makes ONE & TWENTY's sets rock. Drummer Eugenio Ventimiglia has infused the band with the hard-edged funk bottom end that it has longed for. Hailing from Italy, Eugene's back-beat lays down the groove but keeps the mind intrigued. Keyboardist Andy Gladding is a monsterous Hammond organist, and a seasoned veteran of the national club-date circuit. He brings a new and unexpected dimension to the sound that is sure to thrill ONE & TWENTY fans, old and new. Rounding out this powerhouse band is vocalist Tara Lynne. A band leader in her own right, Tara's energy and harmonic depth compliment Thomas' vocal sound and the band's overall presentation.
In 2001, ONE & TWENTY gigged steadily highlighted by appearances at the Northampton Music Festival and Ladyfest East. At Ladyfest East, they shared the stage with Toshi Reagon, Antigone Rising, BETTY & Sarah Jones. Since that show, they have built on a consistently growing fanbase in NYC and the Hudson Valley, and in 2002 have expanded their touring throughout the Northeast. Their critically acclaimed debut CD "I Don't Remember Falling" is garnering increased airplay on college radio. NYRock exclaimed, "Thanks to ONE & TWENTY, the listener gets the feeling the world's a better place." While Rockrgrrl Magazine declared, "ONE & TWENTY plays mad, sad, intelligent rock." Plans to record a follow-up are in the works for 2003. |

"ONE & TWENTY captured a celebratory rock 'n soul spirit that so many Ladyfest East [2002] bands simply didn't. Carol Thomas and company got audience members onstage for one big shake-ya-groove-thing fest. Don't miss the band when they bring the goods your way." |
