Artist History
Embruje is a Spanish term, which means, “to bewitch, or possess.”While the members of Embruje denounce any relationship with witchcraft, or the occult, it is imperative that the definition does apply to their music. Simply put—Embruje’s music is bewitching. This music is a craft that the members of Embruje (vocalist Danny Rhymer, guitarist Bryan Mullen, drummer/percussionist Brandon Woods, and bassist Bryan Black) have spent the past two years perfecting. Combining the elements of metal, rock, jazz, hip-hop, and hardcore, Embruje have created a sound that stands alone in today's music world. “This is not something that we do because we are trying to impress anyone, or because we want to go out to the local clubs and play for some free beers,” says guitarist Bryan Mullen, who, along with drummer, Brandon Woods, formed the band in the winter of 1999. Woods then brought in long-time friend Danny Rhymer. It was only a matter of time until the three hooked up with bassist Bryan Black. The four members have not looked back since. Adds Mullen, “Each one of us does this because we have to. The emotional release that we achieve through our music is unlike anything else in the world, and could not be achieved by any means other than music.” The above statement shines in Embruje’s energetic live appearances. After one show, which housed a little over fifty people, an Embruje fan stated, “You guys play like you’re playing to 20,000 people…even if there’s only twenty in the crowd.”“I am willing to do anything to keep this thing going,” states Woods, “I have complete faith in our music.” And it is through this “faith” and dedication that Embruje spreads the word about their music. Standing outside local clubs and arenas, passing out free demos and stickers has become a frequent Embruje ritual. “If we stand outside a Linkin Park show or a Soulfly show and pass out between 100 to 200 stickers, and CD’s that we burned ourselves, it’s worth it. Despite the cold, despite the money that we dump into the whole process, those are a few people that are going to know our name, and, hopefully, give our music a chance.”Embruje’s music will give listeners catchy, clean, melodic, vocals that will entrap them, and make them live inside of singer Danny Rhymer and guitarist Bryan Mullen’s personal, true-to life lyrics. A resounding beauty in Mullen’s clean guitar sound will leave you in anticipation of what’s to come. And what is to come when the distortion kicks in? It’s an emotional roller coaster ride, which, when coupled with Rhymer’s screams, you will not only listen to, but also identify with. As far as the rhythm section goes, Woods and Black hold down a solid/tight foundation that has become the nucleus of the Embruje sound.Embruje is a combination of four different young men who bring similar, and, perhaps more importantly, different influences to the table. You will find similarities to newer groups such as Staind, Sevendust, Deftones, Tool, and Machine Head. Yet there are traceable influences back to such staples as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Sepultura, and Rush.Embruje have recently recorded a 5 song demo that they will continue to promote through live showcases…as many as possible. According to Mullen, “The goal is to get our music out there to as many people, in as many places, as possible. We’ll do whatever it takes. I don’t see us stopping anytime soon.” |
