Artist History
Basically, Blind Man Healed is four individuals from different denominational backgrounds who are fed up with Christ being put on the back burner while His church does nothing to stop it. Since the beginning of civilization, the world has constantly argued over the truth and everything it involves. It is very obvious to us that God has always been the truth, and He has called us to spread this truth to an unbelieving world. This is the underlying purpose to our music and is the fundamental reason for our very existence. If we are indeed the Eclosia (the called out ones) it is time we act the part and give our dying world something to live for. However, There was a time when the band was just an idea.Jeff and Josh met in about 1993. Jeff used to play (well not exactly playing) on a little pawnshop guitar that his dad bought him. Josh, of course, thought this was pretty cool. Josh, who had played a little guitar himself, wanted to improve, so Jeff and Josh began to learn together. Jonathan, being the annoying little brother of Josh, would often times tag along, wanting to further his own God-given musical talent on the bass. In their early high school years, the three of them added a drummer and formed a band named "Sustenance Divine." To make an extremely long story short, the early band did not work out.Sustenance Divine then attempted music without a drummer. Instead, they used beats sequenced on a keyboard, and again, the situation did not work out as the band realized that a real drummer was needed. With two failed attempts, the three brothers became frustrated and began to wonder if a music ministry was not in God's plan for them. Another year passed and Jeff, Josh, and Jonathan could not shake the calling of playing for the Lord. They began praying that God would equip them with the tools needed to begin their dream of using their musical talent to spread the gospel.Meanwhile, in northwest Wichita, Trent Wray was spending the spring and summer of his senior year dreaming of how he could best be used to further God's kingdom. Although there were opportunities at various colleges, something was stopping his heart from making a full commitment to any one of them. After fervent prayer from both he and his mother and an unexpected call from the baseball coach at Cowley County Community College, God finally revealed his path. Trent, who had spent all four years of high school playing percussion in numerous state solo and ensemble contests in addition to school band, decided to place his music career aside in order to focus on his upcoming ministry in athletics. It seems many times when you least expect it, God totally answers your prayers, and usually in the ways you least expect. On a cold Wednesday in early winter of 2000, Josh's girlfriend Steffanie urged him toward a college Bible study that she had been invited to. In Josh's first time at the Bible study, he met Trent, who was playing baseball for Cowley College at the time. A few weeks later, Josh, Trent, Jeff and Jonathan became a "garage band" with a purpose. God had brought the band together and had revived, with his own awesome purpose and in his own perfect timing, the dreams of the four musicians: to further His kingdom through their love of music.Blind Man Healed was officially born on May 25, 2000. After arguing for many weeks over what to name our group, an acquaintance of the band suggested the name Dumb Man Healed after finding the phrase in a topical concordance. After much debate the name was altered to Blind Man Healed. With this matter settled they began the long and grueling task of writing songs. This task became easier and easier as they allowed the Holy Spirit to write through them, each song being an outpour of what they felt for their savior. God began to use them and continues to allow them to live their dream. |
