Artist History
Ashley Collins and Eric Toomsen have been playing together since 1995. Based out of Atlanta, The Charms travelled up and down the east coast and to Amsterdam playing acoustically. In early 1998, The Charms released a self-produced CD entitled Calm Before The Storm which recieved favourable revues from numerous publications and enjoyed brisk sales at Charms shows. That spring they booked a five night stint in Austin, Texas, during the South by Southwest Music Conference. There they gained numerous fans in the music industry (including Brad Hockmeyer, owner of KTOA, who named The Charms best band he saw during SXSW) and recieved cover story status on the Fox TV news network when the station interviewed the band and filmed a show. Later in 1998 The Charms were invited to showcase during the ATLANTIS Music Conference, the Philadelphia Music Conference, and recieved Atlanta Local Music Awards' Best Acoustic Band as decided by local music industry people, and the People's Choice Award, which is entirely fan-driven. The Charms released their second CD Not Bad For A Bad Day in August of 1999. The release marked the band's transition from an acoustic band to a four-piece rock band, by adding bassist Brandt Fincher and drummer Don Correu, friends of Eric's from when the three were attending Berklee College of Music together. During the months to follow, The Charms went on several tours along the east coast. They played to enthusiastic crowds in Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., Louisville, and several other cities in Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Upon returning from one of the trips, The Charms were offered a sponsorship from the Guinness beer company. This relationship should prove to be enjoyable for all involved. The Charms are carving a niche for themselves with their cutting edge rock sound. Hearing and seeing this band is a sonic experience not soon forgotten, and with the buzz being created, The Charms' future looks bright indeed. |
