Artist History
Téka provides an interesting combination of the sensual rhythms of Brazil and Jazz. A 1993 nominee for a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Latin Act, she also has performed and recorded with many artists. Among them, her husband composer Paris Psaros on their CD entitled Garden Planet. In a departure from Brazilian Jazz, she appeared as a soloist with the Santa Barbara Oratorio Chorale in their 1995 and 1997 California performances of Canto General by Mikis Theodorakis and Pablo Neruda. |

Press Reviews
New England Performer Magazine
by Debbie Catalano September 1993
A pleasantly different press kit accompanied this equally pleasant cassette by Brazilian singer Téka along with her husband composer Páris Psaros. They successfully draw a musical picture of the environmentally conscious-geared lyrics, with music that is just dripping of nature, tropics and earthiness in the form of smooth, mellow, easy-listening jazz. Both are accomplished musicians in Brazil and recognized among their circuit in Boston. Songs with titles like 'Back with the tide', 'Garden Planet' and 'Harvest' are perfect examples of what Téka's music is all about. Great percussion throughout; beautiful effects and strings in the instrumental 'Harvest' (is that a sitar I hear?!) and warm, feeling, smooth vocals highlight this recording.
It was refreshing, enjoyable and alerting to nature and the Earth. A finale of 'Nowhere to be' is a break from the others with great big band jazz sound - Excelent! |
