Artist History
The Steel Breeze is from New York City, where four students of Stuyvesant High School became friends and formed the band. Guitarists Ben Umanov and Sivan Cotel began playing together informally in 1997, and in 1998 drummer Eric Smith was added. In 1999 bassist Zach Rosner was added to complete the lineup. At the end up 1999 the Steel Breeze started playing together seriously, writing several new songs, and preparing to hit the clubs of NYC. Rockin' from 1999 into 2000, the Steel Breeze played shows at the Spiral Lounge, and the prestigious Wetlands Preserve. During this time the band adopted members Susan McGregor and Shantha Susman for backup vocals on selected tracks, Mike McFarland on trumpet on selected tracks, and Sivan Cotel played mandolin on a few of his own "mando-rock" songs as well. MCs Ian Aliman and Aaron Merkin continued to play with the band. |

Press Reviews
"The Steel Breeze is a teen band extrordinaire. With hip-hop roots wrapped in alternative rock and mixed in with new visions from the future of music, this sound is fresh and new. Rough edges do not distract from the bright moments of brilliance that shine through more often than not. This is one of the groups to watch."- Rick Siegel, www.musictv.com |
