Artist History
I've been writing songs since I was 11 years old. I had the typical garage/cover bands throughout High School and College (University of Chicago), and have continued on ever since, writing tunes, playing solo, and with a variety of original bands. During the early 90's I actually took on a stage name for a while. "Morty Shallman" became "Andrew Ashbury," and Andrew became quite well known in Western Illinois and Iowa. I put together a group called the Andrew Ashbury band, and we performed Coast to Coast, from CBGB's in New York, to the Troubadour and Largo in L.A. I dropped the Ashbury persona in 1994, though, when I formed a new band with Guitarist/Songwriter/Producer, Danny Shaffer in Chicago. Our band, Minds of Babes, was together for about 4 years, producing a bunch of great songs, and an EP on our own label, called "Imaginary Eye." We played all around Chicago, the Dragonfly in L.A., and were one of the most respected bands in town, if not one of the most well known. In 1998, I decided to join the rest of my family in Los Angeles. In the past two years, I've played all over town, at clubs like "Luna Park," " The Gig/Hollywood," and "Ghengis Cohen." For now, I am preparing a new CD for release, working on my website (of course) and performing solo shows around L.A. My next show is at the House of Blues/Sunset on 11/14/00. I'll be playing in the Foundation Room, which has a really cool vibe, and is perfect for my current "solo" act. My goals right now are to land a publishing/record deal, and to market my tunes/CD's on the web. I plan to release a full length disk in January, 2001. |
