Artist description
The musical cabal Translucid consists of two components, each complementing the other, yet giving the project a balance unattainable without both elements. Shea - EBM, synthpop, darkwave, atypical structure, experimentia. David - Spacerock, synthpop, ambience, motive, depth. Musical effluence includes, but is not limited to, synthpop, darkwave, and spacewave. Spacewave represents an amalgam of spacerock & synthpop. The result: ambience and sweeping texture combined with melodic sensibility. |

Translucid "Organic"
With the exception of an album here and there, most of you know I am not a huge fan of Synthpop. However, the musical team of Shea and David, aka Translucid, have managed to catch my ear.
"100 Fathoms (Vocal Mix)" sets the mood of the EP with a sweeping ambient soundscape, and some mellow electronics building to a beat. The vocals come in and are hauntingly melodic, matching the musical bed in a way that you can easily hum along to. The synth riffs are beautiful, and the serious feel of this track should catch the ears of Synthpop, Darkwave, and Spacerock fans alike.
"Hang" has a similar feel, but fits a lot more snugly in the Synthpop genre with a light hearted feel. It would not surprise me to see this track turn up on the next Plastiq Music Compilation.
"Darkness Unspoken" takes a real turn with more of a Techno influenced feel for an intro, and somewhere in the middle breaks down to some softer synths that remind me of the prettier tunes off the Prophecy of P.A.N.I.C. double disc set of a few years ago. It gets a Sci Fi feel with samples like, "The truth is out there", as well as robotic voices that remind you of the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, and the Transformers cartoons. It's pretty and spooky all at the same time, and one of my favorite tracks off the album.
"Autumn Is Alone" is most definitely Synthpop. The music is very classicly beautiful, and the vocals are very much a key part of this song. This is also right up the alley of the Joy Electric/Plastiq Musiq crew, but sounds completely different. While I like the vocals on other tracks, I find them almost spooky on this song, and they give it a darker feel to be sure.
"Torn" is a soundscape of beautiful. Short and sweet at barely 2:08, it still leaves the lasting impression of prettiness.
"Veracity" wraps things up with one of the most powerful messages on the album, "There are absolutes". This is a real Darkwave or Spacewave type of tune musically. It is beautiful, but has a real Industrial, Techno flavor throughout it, while maintaining a spacey soundscape, you hear the harder influences poke through in spots. It is a very cool sounding song, but again the message is the coolest part. Sometimes it is samples, sometimes it's quick whispers, but pounded through the music bed you get the message, "Truth is more than just a word, it's a reality. The truth will set you free. Don't believe the lie, there are absolutes."
While this probably won't appeal to DJ's looking for something to spin to keep the dancefloor moving, its should appeal to fans looking for good music to listen to. Out of all the things that I like about Translucid, the music holds my attention the most. There is some real talent there, and I look forward to what the guys create in the future.
