Artist History
Count Basie started out playing the Vaudville circuit in New York. After moving to Kansas City, Basie joined the likes of Bennie Moten, until he formed his own Big Band in 1935. He began his recording career with Decca in 1936, and by 1937, Basie had proven that his band could hang with any swing band at the time. Many of Basie’s recordings have become standard, including ‘One O’Clock Jump’, ‘Jumpin’ at the Woodside’, and ‘April in Paris’, proving that Count Basie truly is one of the greatest Jazz pianists of all time. |
