Artist description
About FAST - Fast Action Stops Torture - is a newer, faster way to accomplish a goal that Amnesty International has pursued successfully for many years: fighting torture with a targeted barrage of individual appeals. When you join FAST, you will become one of tens of thousands who, through a simple click, can instantly send a letter of protest to a torturer. Amnesty International's Urgent Action Network, the foundation for FAST, began as part of the 1972 Campaign for the Abolition of Torture. Today the Urgent Action Network mobilizes activists in 78 countries who respond to urgent cases of many kinds. FAST combines the information-gathering, verifying and coordinating capabilities of the Urgent Action Network with the speed of cyberspace. Its goal is to tap the potential of the Internet to intervene in the real world - FAST.While torture happens on a daily basis, FAST actions will address only urgent cases calling for immediate action. When you get your FAST alert, by e-mail, cell phone or pager, it will take just minutes for you to log on, sign a pre-printed letter and electronically send it off to the torturers. The FAST pages will include regular updates on cases and banners and other material you can download to help share FAST with your friends. Three minutes of your time could save a life. Register now. You will make a difference. |
