Artist History
Robin's career has spanned over thirty years. He is best known for his blues, jazz, swing, and eclectic stylings. He isn't a purist, however. Rather he has cherry picked from a variety of sources. He has been called a "Sonic Alchemist", creating new music with archaic instruments. Coupled with his vocal powers and a sense of humor, Henkel, live or on disc, continues to carve his own niche, just outside of the mainstream. His latest CD, "Highway" was just voted Best Blues Album at the 2000 San Diego Music Awards. This page features selections from that CD, as well as two others entitled Blues 90 (1989) and Blues 90 (1993). You can go to the artists main website to learn more and buy these outstanding CD's. |

Press Reviews
"Robin is a futurist and an historian." LA Times. "Robin's live shows are nothing short of inspirational. The lyrics are a celebration of the realities of life and there is something genuinely raw, base and animalistic about his gut-wrenching, honest music, that like a heartbreaking film, keeps people coming back, night after night." 360 Degrees. "Henkel is already playing a shuffle that is neither slow or fast. A strut, and it is extremely seductive. Henkel proceeds to play a fast jump progression, much like one of Robert Johnson's fiery paced songs. As with Johnson, it is hard to imagine, if you close your eyes, that there is only one guitarist at work. You can almost hear the scratches on the 78." San Diego Reader |
