Press Reviews
Aware Records says this:Say Hello to the Master Siege Control marks the debut of the Chicago rock band EXO. Combining the perfect mix of melody and wall of noise aggresiveness, EXO's rock attack hints of NIN, Jane's Addiction and yes, the Beatles. Don't be afraid to meet the (M)(S)(C). The addiction will be worth the trip. Tip Sheet - London says this:One of the best sounds we've heard this year, unsigned or otherwise. Brian McDonald of www.playhear.com sais this:A varied mix of styles took to the stage last night at Double Door as part of a benefit for Free Street Programs, a community outreach organization that serves a wide section of Chicago’s West and Northwest sides. Check out their website at: http://www.freestreet.org. As for the music portion of the evening, the event got off to an early start, as Jive Council took the stage about 9pm.EXO, another group with a debut record on the way, presented an exceptional power-rock contrast with their set. Scott Tallarida’s swanky explosions of distortion, and Jason Lee’s majestic feedback provided the initial dual guitar assault, while Jim Dinou’s keyboard expressions utilized effects, bizarre sounds, and album-production fills. Bold tunes like Lollipop Pornstars, and Starstruck Chemistry were colored and textured with Lee’s commanding guitar, while the pulse of each was very capably driven by G. Dowd’s pounding percussion. The X factor for EXO however, was definitely Dinou’s synth work. At times, he could steer a song towards an angry new-wave vibe, other moments, elements of power-pop and punk would seep in. The Last of the Super Radicals, their second song of the night, was a perfect example of this - it was as if The Cars invited members of Fugazi to a studio session and everyone in the room was allowed to watch in wonder. It was evident EXO has spent hours meticulously going over arrangements and instrumentation for their record, the depth of their live show displays that fact immediately. Even during spaces in-between songs, transitional and mood setting samples and guitar effects would carry listeners from song to song. EXO is a band that is tighter and more unique than most of the major-label bands out there. If you can, see them. |
