Artist History
The future figureights were raised in the BMW and golf course-strewn suburb of Crofton, Maryland in the 70's and 80's. As their futures seemed unavoidably promising, Adam, Gil, and Greg viewed punk rock as their only avenue of escape. 'We wanted to make less of ourselves than our parents had. We really looked to the Ramones for guidance,' states drummer Greg Shook. Toward those ends, the boys formed their first band, Vital Organz, in 1985. After changing their name to The Uncultured, the boys quickly gained a reputation as the finest rockers on Crofton's burgeoning junior-high party scene, and it was in this milieu that Greg, Adam, and Gil met charismatic vocalist Mike Butts. With Butts firmly in the driver's seat, the trio of future figureights was transformed into the wildly popular LoveSlug. With concert attendance and album sales up and grades slipping, their long-time dream seemed to have been realized. But, as is often the case in the music business, the good times were closely followed by the bad. Tragedy struck when, despite their best efforts to the contrary, the boys were accepted into well-respected universities. 'Taking that sheepskin really made me question my commitment to music. I mean, that was the sort of thing that I thought could only happen to kids who dabbled in soccer and extra-curricular activities in high school,' states guitarist Gil Hegwood. After re-evaluating their lives and putting their diplomas behind them, Adam and Greg formed the figureights, recruiting Gil as their lead guitarist. Shortly after playing their first show in the bakery aisle of the Annapolis Fresh Fields, the boys completed their lineup with suave lady-killer Chris Rolling on bass. With a hearty 'let's get 'er done,' Chris was instrumental in propelling the figureights into the firmament of rock stardom. |
