Artist description
Out of the southern swamps rises the slow and low band known as SLOB.Keeping in the tradition of their magnificent predecessors BLACK SABBATH, CROWBAR, and CORROSION OF CONFORMINTY, the SLOB sound includes fat riffs, slow tempows, and aggressive vocals that keep the listener in the groove of the southern sludge.Although the four members have unique personalities, they have 2 things in common, their weight, and their love of the southern sludge groove that has risen from the swamps over the last ten years.Drummer DAVID GREEN has played in bands since he was 16. After his band DEMISE split, he hooked up with guitarist RAY ABERCROMBIE, formerly of DEATH&TAXES, in the early 90's forming the legendary GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI based band GRIDLOCK.They released 2 demos and played countless shows for over 5 years.Bassist JULIAN SURLA, from LOUISIANA was originally a vocalist, playing in the NEW ORLEANS based bands DAMAGED, FEEDBACK, and most notably, NEW REIGN. His true love was always guitar and eventually began playing bass too. JULIAN and DAVE have been best friends for years and this was the first opportunity for both of them to be in a band together. SLOB was first formed in august 1999 with DAVE on drums, RAY on guitar, JULIAN on bass and vocals, and CLIFF RICHARDSON on vocals and guitar. After a few shows, and a few controversies, SLOB released their first CD:BELLY UP TO THE TROUGH on JANUARY 1, 2000. Two weeks later, CLIFF was out and the "phat" guys were looking for a new singer. They had just been asked to be the opening band for CROWBAR. They neglected to tell the owner that they didn't have a singer yet and put some serious pressure on themselves. They had 4 weeks to write 5 new songs and bring in a new singer, knowing that this show was a chance of a lifetime. Enter BIFF, who had previously been the lead vocalist for the SEDATIVE.BIFF came in and added the last ingredient to the "SLOB" sound which has been described as an "in your face, sludgecore, all the way down to your nutsack metal." The best thing is, BIFF has his shit together and knows what he wants to do. BIFF's stage presence is like no other and he keeps the audience wanting more. SLOB released their second CD:SOUTHERN SWINE on NOVEMBER 4, 2000 and have plans to be playing more shows, writing more songs for a new CD in the FALL 2001, appearing on the UNDERGROUND ALLIANCE: NEW SOUTH HYMNS compilation CD, and discovering new buffets all over the country. |
