Artist History
Folk music ensemble "Slanina" was founded in 1996 by the members of the department of Musicology at the University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The ensemble plays traditional folk music from the regions of Moravia and Slovakia. In addition, they have repertoire which encompasses the music of ethnic minorities living in the region (Gypsy, Jewish, etc.). The aim of the ensemble is to find most authentic way in performing unique musical material. The musical heritage and language of Moravia and Slovakia is incredibly rich and has inspired music of the great czech composers (Janacek, Dvorak, Martinu, etc.). The band performs on traditional instruments and in typical traditional dress. Slanina has already performed with great success throughout Europe both alone and together with the folk dance ensemble "Vonica." |
