Artist description
One review says:Fusion Jazz, Funk, KrautrockSimultaneously funky and spacey, this bunch of skilled improvisers treat your ear-hole to a hypnotic massage, with the oh-so-70's bonus of an extended flute jam. It's like a head trip to listen to. Cookin’ with Kurt , a smooth improvised project that mines funk-jazz and 70’s fusion for all it’s worth. Good fusion comes in many flavors, from the chocolate cake-rich funk of Miles Davis’ “On the Corner” to the clean tofu and wheatgrass vibe of Mahavishnu. Cookin’ with Kurt falls somewhere in between, with a definite dedication to staying on track with the groove that doesn’t eliminate occasional detours to Mars. A damn funky drum track and chugging bass anchor the Mothership exhortations of a flute, filtering tinges of Middle Eastern keys through layer upon layer of delay. We also get a taste of rich electric organ, the two leading voices complementing each other nicely as the drums provide perfectly polyrhthmic fills. The flavor that results is delicious and satisfying. |

Artist History
Stenzo & Fuhry are founders of San Francisco space rock band Beyond-o-matic, who have amassed a worldwide cult following since 1994 with their 3 CD releases. The San Francisco Bay Guardian described Beyond-o-matic as "junk yard prog" pointing to the band's use of self made instruments and vintage electronics, offering up a melodic and experimental space/prog/ outrock palate that is uniquely Beyond-o-matic. Stenzo (the artist formerly known as Kurt Stenzel) is known for his extremely eclectic musical output, from pure ambient to grind metal. His roots are as singer/lyricist for the New York hardcore band "Six and Violence", who have accumulated numerous releases, including guest musicians as unexpected as Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson. Improv sessions--first released as limited edition 100 copies, the CD is now out through innerSPACE records (space, kraut, label in Northern California) |
