Artist History
Since 1994 Chicago's Forest of Impaled has been dedicated to the creation of a dark brutal musical style of the most severe. They have striven to embody all the menacing atmosphere and hateful intensity of the true Metal greats. Keeping the spirit of black metal and fusing it with the essential aspects of thrash/death metal. The band has created an innovative style for the next generation of Extreme Metal enthusiast to worship.
Weathering the typical problems and setbacks of most bands the original destructive team of Marek Trela (guitar) and Adrian Adamus (guitar) have boosted their ranks with the insidious rhythm section of Duane Timlin (Percussion) and Marcus M. Kolar (Bass and Vocals). These newest heathens known most for their work within Chicago's Black Metal elite Sarcophagus. This new stripped down and more essential killing machine line up is now anticipating many live dates as well as the release of their 2-nd full length opus, entitled, Forward the Spears in late Fall/early Winter, to be released by Red Stream. This powerful recording is by far the greatest triumph for the band to date and demonstrates the band's current chaotic/melodic style. With the musical blasphemies "Hand of Vengeance," "Thy Mighty Servant," "I am the Temple to Eternal Death" and title track, "Forward the Spears" the band has created a symbiotic death/black metal masterpiece that true underground and metal fanatics will no doubt whole heartedly embrace.
Hail Darkness. Hail Vengeance. Hail to Death. Hail to the NEW Forest of Impaled!

Demonvoid, released in 1999 was the band's first full length for Red Stream. Delighting the Metal underground it marked the band's musical transition from pure black metal mayhem and incorporated some of the bands other influences. Undaunted by any close-minded judgments the band now bravely drew from the most vital elements of early Thrash and aspects of the most menacing Death Metal, to augment their sound. This unrelenting brutality and blasphemy found in songs like "The Impaler" and "For Ours is the Kingdom" proved a substantial departure from the Mortis Dei MCD. The more vicious Demonvoid is an evil bastard of Black and Death Metal, but continues the legacy of their earlier work while laying forth the foundation for a more chaotic refined approach to songwriting. With the original destructive line-up of Dan Prawica (bass/vocals), Andy Rusin (percussion), Mark Trela (guitar), and Adrian Adamus (guitar), the band concentrated on creating an album that incorporated all of their different musical styles in an effort to create something uncompromising and original.
In its inception, the band focused on composing European influenced metal, melodic guitars and strong songwriting a must. This sound being natural to them considering all members had recently immigrated from Poland. Quickly the band recorded a 4-song demo entitled "The Dark Wilderness," which was only made readily available to the true death/black kult fanatics and was excepted with much praise. This success only intensified the quartets desire to push their art further leading to "Mortis Dei" (1995). The Mortis Dei release is a prime example of the early 90s black metal style and the bands first attempt at recording a professional demo. Comprised of 5 songs focusing on the bloodlust, and savagery of war, Mortis Dei was an underground success and has since become a much sought after underground U.S. Black Metal classic. Eventually released as a MCD by Terrorizer Records in 1995 on US soil and distributed in Europe by Vox Mortiis Records in Poland. Going through several pressings it received great reviews and placed Forest of Impaled among the extreme elite in the underground.

Press Reviews
Being a fan of FOREST OF IMPALED's previous album "MORTIS DEI", I was surprised to hear the change of style in their latest release DEMONVOID. Surprised, yet far from disappointed! The American black metal outfit has now added a new edge and new depth with their change to a more black/death sound rather than the more traditional style of atmospheric black metal. FOREST OF IMPALED now wield a more chaotic sound, dissonant and grant in its complexity. I believe this has made them a little more unique, rising above the stagnant sea of unmemorable black metal bands that grow in mass every day. I feel that this death metal sound melds geniously with black metal in the vein of BEHEMOTH, and MYRKSKOG. It is also something a little more fresh and new. "Demonvoid" still contains many sound and aspects of the band's previous material, it has just matured to a higher level. The musicianship has also matured to new levels, with more complex, well thought out riffs, and drum work to match! Fans of "mortis Dei" will be happy to find that the title track from the previous album closes out Demonvoid, blending well with the newer material. FOREST OF IMPALED are claiming their rightful place amongst the mighty empires of black metal! As the original Scandinavian scene continues to weaken and continually let us down, a new underground arises to carry on the banners of true black metal, here in the US and throughout the entire world. Darkness remains! - Kyle Spanswick. |
