Artist History
All lyrics and music were written by Ann Pence, who sings lead and back-up vocals and plays acoustic guitar on the tracks. Local Anchorage musicians added their talent to the tunes, including Don Morrell (guitars, bass), Stu Schulman (pedal steel), Bill Bateman (drums), Bill Neumeister(drums), Tom Bargleski (piano), Jim Davis (sax) and Dave Arrowsmith (bass). In the first week of its release, Dog's Life received local airplay numerous times on KNBA. And they're still playing it! Ann's influences range from Motown and the great soul singers Aretha, Al Green, on and on...(transistor radio at the beach)to Peter, Paul and Mary (education in harmonizing)and Joni Mitchell (art of songwriting). If you like a good story tune or a wailing heartbreaker, it's all here. Especially the heartbreakers. Ann was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in the Chicago area, a city filled with the soul and tradition of great music. Now a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, Ann continues to write songs with rich melodies and lyrics that tackle some ofthe tougher questions. Thanks for listening! |
