Artist History
Rathskeller was founded in a basement in the Midwest during the late seventies. Original members included Gavin Stolte - vocals, Andy Burnett -drums, Jun Tatsuoka - guitar, Mike Pritchard - guitar, and Keith Anderson on bass. Bass playing duties changed not long after the band's inception, bringing Gavin's brother, Brandon to the line up. The group began performing in the Champaign-Urbana Illinois area. From the start the band played it's own songs along with favorite covers and their lively stage presentation attracted a loyal fan base. After some personnel changes came Keyboardist, Jay Penn. A few guitar and bass players later the nucleus of the band-Gavin on vocals, Jay on keyboards and Andy on drums had amassed enough original material to play 3 full sets of music. Guitarist Jun Tatsuoka and bass player Barry Lerch had also contributed songs to the ever growing list. In 1983,over a year after quitting their jobs and going full-time, the band had traveled over 60.000 miles and played some 250 shows with guitarist Johnny Gherna and bassist Douglas Pugh. This tight and seasoned unit went into aprominent studio later that year to record this album. Only the best of their 40+ plus song repetoire were perfected and pressed onto vinyl in Nashville Tenn. Unfortunately, tape cassettes were becoming the rage and the 500 tapes that the band had made were quickly sold, leaving the guys with several boxes of unsold record albums. This turned out to be a blessing indisguise as a few pristine in the wrapping LP's still remain today! The tunes on this site having been lovingly digitized by master sound industrialist Douglas J. Gherna and are great for those who can't get enough of that 80's rock and roll sound. |
