Review by Pimp Rock PalaceControlled Aggression - SteepŠ1997-98 Controlled Aggression, IndependentCd Rating5/51=Shit, 2=Okay, 3=Average, 4=Dope, 5=AmazingNow a days, it's very difficult to be original when you're a rapcore/groovecore band, and although Controlled Aggression call themselves a groovecore one, I would disagree with the band since they are kinda distant of other bands of the same style because of some different elements they use in their sound. They pretty much have rapcore songs, with the usual harsh screams (Tired Lies), but they also have a powerful weapon with Brendan Cheever's melodic voice. Please believe me when I say this guy has one of the best voices I've ever listened to (listen to "Gary Coleman Vs. KISS and you'll understand why I'm saying that.) I'd have to say that, because of Brendan's voice, Controlled Aggression is kinda a mix between some rap band, maybe Run D.M.C., with Alice in Chains (which is funny, cause these bands are exactly the two bands he said he'd like to tour with,) with an usual metal beat. That makes something incredibly amazing and pleasant for you to listen to, and it's something you don't listen or find in other bands everyday. While you find in "Supafly" (tied with 'Gary Coleman Vs. KISS' as best songs in the album), for example, a song which has kinda a Tool / Staind / heavy Alice In Chains vibe, you'll also be able to listen your typical heavy rapcore song in tracks like the already mentioned "Tired Lies" and "Steve". The production's incredible being an independent release. Steep's gotta be one of the best CD's I reviewed so far, and the fact that it was released in 1997-98 makes me imagine how much better are they now. My only disappointment, besides the fact that it don't have a booklet, was the number of songs in the CD: Only 8. I know it's an independent release and that the money is short for everyone, but being an amazing band as they are, I know I speak by everyone who knows this band's sound that we finished listening to the CD expecting for more songs, or at least a hidden track. Props to them for the amazing job they're doing.- Pedro Einloft SteepŠ1997-98 Controlled Aggression, IndependentCd Rating5/51=Shit, 2=Okay, 3=Average, 4=Dope, 5=AmazingNow a days, it's very difficult to be original when you're a rapcore/groovecore band, and although Controlled Aggression call themselves a groovecore one, I would disagree with the band since they are kinda distant of other bands of the same style because of some different elements they use in their sound.
