Artist History Ronald Reed Lackey, Jr., remembered by many as "the little story teller," has had the song and the story in him since he could talk. At the age of two, he asked his dad and me if we wanted to hear a story. Thinking it would be a normal two-year-old version, we responded, "Sure." We were intrigued to hear our young son repeat verbatim the story of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" as it had been read to him. Realizing he possessed a special gift of not only memory recall but also the talent and wit of storytelling, we encouraged him to share his stories with others. At age three, he stood on stage in a Church of God Camp Meeting in Charlotte, NC before hundreds of people, dramatically telling the story of David and Goliath with the articulate diction of a pro. At age six he recorded a video in New York, which included several of his favorite stories, among which were stories on the life of Jesus and the Disney version of Mickey's Christmas Carol. During his young years, he traveled with us in a family ministry. As we traveled from church to church in different states, he endeared himself to many who will always remember his stories and songs. He touched many lives through his sincerity. It was obvious that he enjoyed what he was doing. The little storyteller also loved to sing and was encouraged to develop that talent as well. It was not surprising that at the age of 17, he made his first recording, featuring ten of the songs he has written. Now 20 years old, a junior at Gardner Webb University, the little singer/storyteller is taller than his dad. A Theatre Arts/English major, he still loves drama and has performed in several plays, some as leading role, with the Webbspinners. He's still writing songs and plans to do more recordings. As his mother, my favorite is still "Tommy's Song," perhaps because it was his first and it speaks Reed's heart. He's a fun-living guy who loves life. But he's serious about his relationship with God. Reed wants God's love to shine through whatever he does. You will sense that in his lyrics, hear it in his music, and hopefully feel it as it comes from his heart to yours. Margaret Lackey
