Artist History
MVP first garnered a huge and loyal following as Swimmer - performing at the Elbo Room in Chicago for three years. In March of 1999, Maverick Records bought their name because they had just signed a band with the trademark. Plus, the Chicago Swimmer had sold over 5,000 CDs locally in less than a year! Their first release, "Welcome to My Whirld" was the only non-major label CD to stay in Tower Record's top 25 for over a month. Richard Milne of WXRT called it "the best debut out of Chicago and one of my top five CDs of 1998." They've opened for Poi Dog Pondering, Mighty Blue Kings, Liquid Soul as well as internationally known groups such as Maceo Parker, The Meters, Groove Collective, Grey Boy All Stars, WAR and the Neville Brothers. The current release "Frequency Gel" is available now. |
