Press Reviews
Dave Strand of The Strand reviewed our latest effort. Here's a bit of what he had to say: "(The song Alien Tractor Whore is) a wonderful concoction of harsh 'trash can' break beats and angst filled screams. What really makes this song work is it's ability to come at you as hard as it wants, but then drop out and let you really enjoy the individual sounds that make it up. The vocals and riffs are the icing on this already sweet cake. Optic Dance is ... a tune which fully flexes fermilab's grasp on engineering songs for the club. It's catchy warbling and wheezing synths move and groove with the heavy dance beat. Well executed. Ah ha! Now the song Magnutron really bites you in the ass when you're not looking. It starts off mellow and dreamlike but then makes sure to let you know that you are still a worthless piece of crap by jumping at you with pounding guitars and moody vocals. What I really enjoy about fermilab is their conscious effort to control what the listener hears. You will only hear what they let you hear. You are a slave to their emotions. All Great Wizards is an interesting song, I was a bit taken a back at first by the wall of sound that ensued. The truth is that it sets a mood, without following too many rules. At times you would almost guess that there was two different songs playing at once. If I were a machine with schizophrenia then this would be my theme song. All in all, I really enjoyed everything I heard from fermilab. They aren't afraid to get dirty, and they aren't afraid to throw down a completely new sound. This kind of freedom is an empowering and rare thing. My hat goes off to Magnusson and mixOptic Eye for an outstanding job on this CD. |
