Artist History
Formed in 1990 as Ars Nova and known briefly as "Land," Nepenthe has experienced several incarnations (see "Members" list below). The group achieved much critical acclaim for their album "everything was beautiful and nothing hurt," produced by the 1994-1998 lineup. When they weren't arguing or banging heads, they were writing beautifully-crafted progressive rock songs. Or maybe they wrote beautiful songs as a result of banging heads and arguing? In any case, Nepenthe provided all of the sturm und drang of all of your favorite progressive bands --both on their recordings, at their live performances, and in the daily trials and tribulations of keeping a forgotten genre relevant and ali |

Group Members
Todd Mizenko (guitar, 1990-1999), Matt Mizenko (bass, 1990-1999), Jamie Boruch (drums, 1990-1999), Eddie Konczal (keyboards, 1992-1999), Jason Rosenfeld (vocals 1994-1998), Vince Ascoli (vocals, 1998-1999), Dan Vitco (keyboards, 1990-1991), Ernie Atella (vocals, 1990-1991), Keith Watlington (vocals, 1992-1994). Keyboardist Vitco and vocalist Atella departed the band in late 1991, and were replaced by Konczal and Watlington, respectively, for the recording of the "Turning the Tide" CD in 1992. Vocalist Jason Rosenfeld replaced Watlington in early 1994. The Boruch/Konczal/Mizenko/Mizenko/Rosenfeld lineup recorded "everything was beautiful and nothing hurt" (1997) which has been presented in its entirety on this site. Rosenfeld left the group in early 1998, but Nepenthe regrouped with renowned vocalist Vince Ascoli (of Relayer fame). Picking up where the old line-up left off, Vince & Co. succeeded in leaving a unique mark on the Nepenthe "aquarium of sound." Watch for some of the songs with Vince as the vocalist to be posted here as well, as well as material from the band's earlier incarnation as "Ars Nova" (1992-1994) with vocalist Keith Watlingt |
