Artist description
The Gypsy Balalaikas were a trio of musicians, Alan Zemel on prima domra and prima balalaika, Judy Sherman on alto balalaika and vocals, and Steve Wolownik on contrabass balalaika. We played an eclectic blend of Eastern European musics that were strongly influenced by Russian emigre balalaika ensembles from New York and Philadelphia that performed in the 30's, 40's and 50's. We loved Russian Gypsy music and performed in the cabaret tradition. |
