Press Reviews
Metal Hammer magazine (Dec 1999 issue)'The Bitter Saint's Abortion'While Marilyn Manson loses the plot deciding to impersonate David Bowie, Squid have been busy honing their goth-rock electronica to the max. While there's no denying the God Of F*ck's influence on the trio, Squid are by no means mere copyists. With hints of Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, NIN, Big Black et al, 'The Bitter Saint's Abortion' - the band's debut full-length platter - is a dark and twisted rollercoaster ride into the world of mainman jaSon . And the guy must be pretty f*cked up to write songs like 'Bride without a c*nt' and 'Gorgeous day for suicide'.It's nasty , frightening, and proves why you, the readers , voted them best unsigned band in the Hammer poll .8/10 Darren Saddler |
