Artist description
Singer-songwriters beware. With his refreshing brand of acoustic pop,
21-year-old Eric Hutchinson has spent the last seven years steadily converting
audiences all across the country into fans. Eric's energetic and humorous live
performances have built him a reputation from New York to Boston to Los
Angeles, as a dynamic young star with unmistakably original songs.
Eric's latest release, the five-song EP, Songs For Nagoya continues Eric’s
exploration into a fresh acoustic sound that has led some critics to compare his
work to the straight-forward emotion of Ben Harper, the clever lyricism of Paul
Simon, and the catchy hooks of Dave Matthews. But while his influences range
from Billy Joel and Elvis Costello to Michael Jackson, Eric's music has emerged as
a unique sound all its own. And people are starting to take notice.
Eric recently finished shooting a music video for his song "Subtitles", directed by
hot indie-filmmaker, Todd Strauss-Schulson. MTV’s "The Real World"
recognized Eric’s talent for songwriting and selected his music to appear in an
upcoming episode. Eric also took second place at the 2002 L.A. Songwriter’s
Grand Slam, beating out a stiff competition of 50 of Hollywood’s hottest
songwriters.
Eric's musical style has evolved over the years, since he discovered his mother's
old guitar in the basement and taught himself to play. Growing up in Washington
D.C., Eric tried performing every type of music he had been influenced by from
rock to folk to hip-hop. Soon, Eric moved to Boston to attend Emerson College,
where he found the folk scene he would need to develop his own inventive
acoustic style.
That trademark sound first gained Eric attention on his debut CD, My Guitar.
Produced and distributed independently My Guitar has completely sold out its
first pressing. Eric is more excited about his latest release, Songs For Nagoya.
New tracks like "Breakdown More" and "All Used Up" deliver the melodies and
personal lyrics that Eric's fans have come to expect. With his fresh take on a
familiar genre, Eric Hutchinson is making his mark. Singer-songwriters beware. |
