Artist History
Founded in 1994 by Jonathan Jordan and Joe Mayer, WOAwas originally a Rush-style songwriting and jamming3-piece band. In 1995, after the departure of ouroriginal drummer, we went through a period of turmoilbefore finding Dave Mathieu and Chris Williams to fillout our sound and add a bluesier, more accessible edgeto the complex music we were creating. In 1996, werecorded "Area To Vary", our debut CD which was releasedindependently in June of 1997. We continued to play thelocal Southern Oregon circuit in support of that CD until1999, most of which we spent recording "Virtual Vinyl".Our sophomore effort was released in August, 2000, andwe have been playing to support that CD since. |

Press Reviews
From the Rogue River Press, July 12, 2000:Rogue Valley band West of Arizona proved that SouthernOregon does have a thriving music scene and amazing talent. The band will be releasing its second album, Virtual Vinyl, on August 12. Radio station KROG willbroadcast details. The four-piece group performed original tunes written by the band members. Highlights included the retro love ballad "Angelina". Its poetry melted like rainbowkisses and illustrated the idealism often worshipped by the young and young at heart, and "Looking for the Promised Land" was an exquisite and poignant lesson onthe modern mindset. Both songs were written by the band's founder, Jonathan Jordan."If you're spending your time making money, you'll have no time for joy. Searching for that promise your dad could never afford," he sang.Chris Williams on lead guitar wrote and sang the Blues influenced number "Smoke Follows Beauty" which slowly and deliberately tore the soul out of everyone there.West of Arizona made the audience fall in love with them one note at a time. |
