    Artist History
UNARMED is a band that has evolved quite a bit over the past few years. Let's go back in time and see how this all came together... Around mid-1999 or so, a few buddies -- Loren Scott, Kenny Williams, and Rick Barnett -- started to jam together about once a week, with Loren playing guitar and handling the vocals, Rick playing bass, and Kenny banging on Loren's drums. One day, brought another buddy of his over to watch and maybe try singing a bit too. Gary Becker was that buddy. He'd never been in a band before but after a little warming up to feel relaxed behind the mike, he was on a roll. He was dubbed the official lead singer of the unofficial band without a name. Ultimately, the guys started to get pretty good at their positions and, when Loren was in the market for a new drum set, Kenny bought the ones he had been banging on from him. Soon, It was determined that this "band" ought to become official by getting a name. Different names were tossed around and at one point Kenny suggested "Armed and Dangerous". Loren joked that the anti-gun people might throw a fit and we should instead call the band "Unarmed and Dangerous". Kenny said that name was too long, but just "Unarmed" sounded cool. So, for lack of a better name, UNARMED it was. After playing for a couple private parties, Gary's connections as a rep for Budweiser started landing some actual paying gigs for at bars that were on Gary's account. (It pays to have contacts on the inside!) Over time, the band had accumulated several original songs that were recorded and made into a CD in mid-2001 (more info on the MUSIC page) and added to their live set list. Wanting to expand their sound, in mid-September the band added a second guitarist, Frank Rodriguez. But, shortly thereafter, family and day job requirements caused Kenny to have to leave the band, and his last official gig with the band was on October 13th, 2001 at Generations in Lake Elsinore, CA. Since the band had several upcoming gigs already booked at that time, the decision was made to move Loren from guitar onto drums and be a one-guitar band again for the immediate future. (Loren is actually a better drummer than guitarist.) The band is currently on the lookout for a second guitarist (or keyboardist) to join them. If so, Loren will remain on drums. Otherwise, if they find a suitable drummer first, Loren will move back onto guitar with Frank again. ...and THAT's the way it is.
