Artist History
Richard has been involved in music from the age of six, learning violin for ten years, after which he began playing guitar and singing in various coffee shops and other venues around Australia. In 1970 he joined the cast of 'HAIR', for twelve months, then joined 'JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR' playing an apostle, understudy Simon, then understudy Jesus for a further eighteen months. Richard recorded with E.M.I. in 1970 and 1971 as a singer/songwriter, unfortunately airplay was very limited so he left in 1972. After playing in bands ranging from a ten piece called 'Nine Stage Horizon' in Sydney, to a duo called 'Moondyne' in Perth, Richard went to Teachers College in Perth and at this stage met Wendy. Richard and Wendy worked together as a duo for the next eight years as 'Fusion', 'Aruma', and of course 'Richard and Wendy'. Wendy was a 'natural' as a singer, together they became an instant success on the club scene in Perth. They began a successful career on the east coast of Australia, working in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel for six consecutive seasons as well as Sydney to Cairns during the summer months. Richard and Wendy had been writing together since they had met and released an album of their own music in 1983. Since Richard and Wendy went their own way he has travelled extensively playing with a variety of musicians, in a variety of countries including England, Germany, Sweden, Spain and his country of birth Holland. For the last few years Richard has been seen sailing the seas in his yacht/home 'Cadenza', writing music and playing in various ports, with his sound system on board. He found the experience invaluable, meeting and playing with some amazing people in the diverse fields in music. Since 1995 Richard has settled in the Whitsundays, built a recording studio and has recorded his album “ Dawning of the Day”, which was launched in May 1998. In 1999 he produced and recorded 'Whitsunday songwriters Vol 1' a compilation CD of 12 local songwriters . Richard plays guitar and sings a variety of styles ranging from R&B Country ballads, Rock and Blues with an emphasis on Acoustic sound. He has a large repetoire of songs and will play requests and/or provide a sing-a-long atmosphere where required. Some of the Artists he covers are as follows; BEATLES, ROLLING STONES, VAN MORRISON, KINKS CHRIS REA, DIRE STRAITS, BOB DYLAN, NEIL YOUNG, CAT STEVENS, EAGLES JOE COCKER, BOB SEGER, PAUL SIMON, J J CALE, ERIC CLAPTON, C C R, RICHARD CLAPTON, BOB MARLEY, JIM CROCE, HARRY CHAPIN, BREAD, LRB, ELTON JOHN, MICHAEL FRANKS, JERRY JEFF WALKER, JIMMY BUFFET ETC. |
