Artist History In the November of '98, five friends crossed paths for the first time in years. Falling on hard times, each of them decided that the time had come foraction. So, out of the ashes of past pain came the motivation that would spark the music from Chase, Dug, Hoop, Timone and Sparx; collectively known as Phantom Black. Phantom Black was fortunate to grow up in an area saturated by Detroit Radio. Many different genres influenced Phantom Black such as hard rock,blues, classical and funk. For Phantom Black, it was never a question of what type of songs were they going to write, rather, what emotion or theme isthe song going to 'soundtrack'. In other words, was the motive for the song real or not real? For Phantom Black, the music is the medium through which they both express themselves...and exploit themselves. Singer/guitarist Chase has revealed aunique style of song writing , combining poetic and philosophical lyrics with off time heavy guitar riffs which grip the straight time, but dwell in the off time.The drummer Timone, together with Hoop and his power-groove bass lines, give Phantom Black a solid foundation which can be described as a 'wallof thunder'. Dug and Sparx then drape effects over the dark rhythyms to produce an overall effect which they describe as 'the trance'.Starting from their hometown of Sarnia.ON.CA, Phantom Black (via their own means) has started to climb the industry ladder. Playing at local clubs inand around the area has prepared them for the bigger shows to follow. Phantom Black has now opened for bands like Quiet Riot, Flybanger and BigWreck at The Industry Music Theatre, the largest concert hall in the area. Next, was an appearance in Chatham with Jet Set Satellite, then at Harpo's inDetroit, Michigan. The Mackinac Festival was a big success for Phantom Black, opening for Edwin with thousands of fans that they did not disappoint. Demos recorded in August of '99 an No. 9 Studios were revamped and with the help of private investors, Phantom Black would independently launch Flight From Shadow 2000 AD. This full-length album was recorded at world-renowned Phase One Studios in Toronto.ON.CA. Phase One Studios is credited with recording Rush, Triumph, Whitesnake, The Tragically Hip, The Rolling Stones and the list goes on. Working closely with Eric Ratz, their producer, Phantom Black were able to release a world-class recording of Flight From Shadow. Several fm radio stations are spinning tracks from Flight From Shadow such as k106.3 fm Sarnia.ON.CA and The Rock 94.3 fm in Chatham.ON.CA. Both these stations have given enormous support to this record. This has helped Phantom Black reach their underage fan base. Songs, Time And Again and Run were both featured on "The Drive at Five" which is k106.3ıs top requests of the week. The largest advertising tool for the band is their website, www.phantomblack.com which helps them to transcend borders. Currently under construction is their new flash website which should hopefully be up and running by 01.01.00. A new millennium will bring with it the second album of the first Phantom Black Trilogy entitled, ŒMachine.ı The next record brings with it elements of a more futuristic sound and is more relentless in itıs aggressive attack. The band has incorporated a heavy dance groove with the attitude that can only stem from rock nı roll. The merger of these two sounds creates a new playground for Phantom Black to explore. So keep your eyes and ears peeled for the release of Machine sometime in 2001.
