Artist description
The best way to describe Mike Sterling's guitar style is pyrotechnical wizardry overflowing with sonic texture. An on going process for the last ten years, Mike's development as a musician has resulted in a technique he calls "flutterplucking". Through a masterful use of harmonics and percussive elements, his performance is not only unique, but is both visually stunning and overwhelming in its musical scope. |

Artist History
Mike started exploring early on with open tunings because of the greater sound possibilities. At first he played in an upright position, plucking away at a twelve string. Later he moved to finger picking on a six string, all the while creating his own instrumental pieces. In 1988 Mike inadvertently placed the guitar on his lap during a phone call and started "doodling" on the harmonics as he talked. When he got off the phone, he began to use his left thumb and fingers for bass lines. This, combined with the high string and upper fret harmonic melodies using his right hand created a rythmic and contrapuntal sound that has been evolving to this day. |
