Artist History
Music has always played a big role in the life of Jerry Ray. Early piano lessons, public school choir and band programs plus playing piano on Sunday after Sunday at more churches than he can remember . . . Veteran LA music professional and Warner Bros. composer/arranger, JERRY RAY, says ". . .I loved music so much, that after high school I gave up the notion of becoming a doctor and went off to college to major in music education. I wanted to teach high school music. I wanted to give back to other young musicians some of the fun, camaraderie and academic stimulus a school music program provides. But show business called and I was off to Los Angeles. I arrived with the self appointed titles of composer, arranger, conductor and producer, along with a piano tucked under my arm. Wow! Those were the days. The results? Pounds and pounds of music score paper, millions of notes, tons of arrangements, lots of jingles, a plethora of publishing projects, network television, albums and CD recording projects, live concerts, road trips, editing and producing. The examples are as numerous as they are varied. Jerry has been music director/pianist/arranger for many of LA's greatest stars - in the studio and on the road. Tours with Debby Boone (including playing You Like Up My Life in New York's famed Carnegie Hall), concerts with superstar Bob Hope and gospel great Andrea Crouch. Live performances at Disneyland, The Queen Mary, LA's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Pheasant Run Theater and a command performance for President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan and Illinois Governor "Big" Jim Thompson. Mr. Ray has composed/arranged and produced music for regional and national commercial jingles including Sears, Chevrolet, Lexus, Valley National Bank and hip Boy Band outfitter Bugle Boy clothes. He has scored and produced music for network television that includes Disneyworld, NBC-TV, Disney's Imaginering, Dick Clark Productions, FOX-TV, The Disney Channel. Jerry's says his most challenging and most fun TV assignment was the famed Monty Hall game show Let's Make A Deal. His job was to not only to write a hip, new theme for the show, but also create a music library of 60+ musical "cues", (background music), for all prizes behind each of those three curtains. The problem? What does luggage music sound like? What does new car music sound like? What does sporting equipment. . . or fancy jewelry from Beverly Hills music sound like? Jerry says ". . .it's all about the range of emotions each gift creates. A new car is much more exciting that an snow plow. The trick is to write the music at a level that mimics and supports the contestants emotional reactions." In Hollywood, they say you're only as famous as your last appearance, so what's Jerry done lately? Well, Jerry Ray has just finished composing/arranging and recording a brand new, fresh theme for one of America's most popular TV talk/variety shows. We're not at liberty to mention the show's name, or its newly "soloed" male host, until all the details are hammered out, but if you want to be a millionaire, you might also be inclined to watch this show, too. In the world of publishing, Jerry Ray has composed and arranged for the largest and most respected publishing companies in the world and the biggest names in the world of music. Examples include Warner Bros. Publications, Hal Leonard Publishing, Alfred Publishing, Cherry Lane Music, Word Music, Sparrow Music, Shawnee Press and Fred Bock Music. Jerry Ray's arranging skills are in demand constantly and evidenced in his print arrangements for Ricky Martin (The Cup Of Life), legendary boy band Backstreet Boys (I Want It That Way), Gloria Estefan and mega boy band N'SYNC's Oscar nominated duet (Music Of The Heart - written by songwriter superstar Diane Warren), Whitney Houston (Where Do Broken Hearts Go?), Jim Brickman (Angel Eyes), Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram (Somewhere Out There - from the movie An American Tail), Madonna (Don't Cry For Me Argentina), Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion's Oscar dominated duet (The Prayer), TV/movie themes (Inspector Gadget and Batman), George Michael and Aretha Franklin's funk duet (I'll Knew You Were Waiting), Huey Lewis (Hip To Be Square) and 80's star Brenda K. Starr's (I Still Believe). But like we mentioned earlier, in showbiz, you're only as good as you last gig. So what's next? Well, Jerry has been asked by Warner Bros. Publications to arrange BABY, I WOULD, the first release from the anxiously awaited CD from new super boy band O TOWN. Fresh from their ABC-TV and MTV show, Making The Band, these five guys show great promise, especially on this new Diane Warren song. Watch O TOWN hit the top of the charts with this special love ballad. The Keys to Christmas And after all that Hollywood stuff, comes the chance for Jerry Ray to do a solo piano album. Not just any solo recording - but a Christmas one. Jerry says ". . . It's my favorite time of year, and some of my most favorite music comes from the Christmas traditions. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this project come to life. After all, Christmas is all about warm friendships, great music and the thoughts of the entire world all focused on love, and on peace, and on goodwill. Wow! That's pretty powerful stuff . . . it's the very stuff that makes up The Keys to Christmas." Christmas. . . Piano . . . Exquisite. Three words that best describe this wonderful CD. Everyone's favorite Christmas carols beautifully and uniquely arranged and performed on piano by Warner Bros. composer/arranger JERRY RAY. This is Christmas 2000's musical 'warm and fuzzy.'The Keys To Christmas was created from all the best things Christmas has to offer. Friends and family, good food, a beautiful tree, gifts galore, the infant birth plus that very special warmth that seems so apparent and automatic come every December 25th. Let the familiar Christmas melodies from this CD catch your mind and take you back to the warmest Christmas holidays you can imagine. Let the exquisite arrangements propel you into simple, but sophisticated state of musical excitement. The Keys To Christmas . . .truly this season's "warm and fuzzy." Also, makes the perfect gift! |
