Artist History cosmic avenger is a new jersey-based power pop group founded in 1995 by brothers joon quinn and gene pompilio (songs, singing, guitar, drums), with john moller (synth bass, keyboards). influenced by 60's and 70's AM radio, as well as the alternative rock movement of the 80's and 90's, the cosmic avenger sound combines the melodic sensibilities of bands like the fountains of wayne and ben folds five with a slightly warped version akin to guided by voices and the flaming lips. their self-released debut cd, "the sunlight diner & the meaning of life" was well-received by the press and earned the band a trip to LA to perform in the prestigious International Pop Overthrow in 1999.the disc was featured on several local and national "end of the year" lists, and received extensive airplay on several U.S. college radio stations, including freeform trailblazers WFMU 91.1FM, as well as several overseas syndicated shows. they have had songs placed on two compilation cds, and were also invited to play the Baltimore Pop Festival in 1999. jersey city-born songwriters joon and gene have been writing and recording their own material since '94, when the pair used a second-hand 4track and a radio shack microphone to commit 15 originals to tape. since then, they have amassed a catalogue of over 50 songs. synth-bassist and keyboardist john moller of middletown has been playing with the pompilio brothers since the inception of the band. cosmic avenger avenger continues to write, record, and perform their music with the hopes of reaching a wider listening audience.
