    Artist History
A slow-moving cab hit Andrew Vladeck's mother when she was pregnant with him and his twin sister. She and another pedestrian were carried on its hood several blocks down 2nd Avenue until the cabby finally stopped the vehicle. This might explain the restless, hungry feeling that propels both his music and his life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you were riding shotgun on a cross-country road trip, somewhere along day 4 you might begin to experience the giddy, desperate earnestness and joy that permeates Vladeck's music. Or you could simply just listen to his music. Playing a hotwired and haunted banjo, a '38 banjo-ukulele, '72 Fender Mustang and even an '27 Autoharp, Vladeck rocks the roots of Americana and spins off enthralling tunes that transport the listener through a unique but distinctly American musical landscape. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since The Victory Horns and the Cousins' Choir came on board, Vladeck has added a Southern spiritual vibe to this eclectic mix, cascading his smart, whimsical lyrics right over the top. He captures moments in surprising and intimate ways that reveal the influence of Springsteen, Van Morrison, Beck, and David Bromberg, who is actually Vladeck's cousin. He sings, "Last night I got hammered, but today I woke up nailed / baby, I don't want to fail you / I am through / but you got a very thick skin / I'm just waiting for the coffee to kick in". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Between the Ramapo Mountains and the Nanuet Mall, New York State is where Vladeck spent his late childhood after moving from NYC via Boston when his father served in the Navy. Weaned on 45s from old Jukeboxes that stood in the living room, he remembers David Bromberg combing through them before giving Andrew his first guitar lesson. At seventeen, Vladeck moved to New York City and began to play downtown while a student at Columbia University. After college he was a NYC Urban Park Ranger, assigned to the Bronx and Manhattan, and met some of the musicians he plays with while on patrol. Andrew Vladeck currently lives in Brooklyn and performs in the Lower East Side -- the same neighborhood his family moved to when they came to America over a hundred years ago

    Press Reviews
SOUNDVIEWS: Vladeck?s music is like a dog riding in a car with its head out the window - the destination isn?t important, it?s just happy to be out of the house. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IDIOT'S DELIGHT DIGEST: Recently called 'a musical analog of Being John Malkovitch,' Andrew Vladeck and his semi-twisted posse will be tearin' it up tomorrow night at the Mercury Lounge...this may be your last chance to add "I saw Andrew Vladeck when he was nobody to your file of "I dropped acid at Woodstock", and "Man, I practically LIVED at the Stone Pony", and "Yeah, I saw JFK, Jr. with his shirt off. (That last one was from my personal file.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE MUSICIANS' EXCHANGE: This guy is an intelligent songwriter who isn?t afraid to stand on the ledge...I hope some smart young A&R guy picks this guy up. Vladeck should be on the radio, If radio thinks [name deleted] is a great new artist, this guy should be the Second Coming. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DJ KIM MASSENGILL: After two acoustic acts I was craving bottom...and then something amazing happened. Andrew Vladeck. He had 8 pieces, including trumpet and trombone. Clever, sweet, whimsical lyrics, and on most songs, Andrew fronts with slide banjo! Thrilled I?ve discovered Andrew Vladeck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE E-NTERNATIONAL: For those of you who haven?t heard him, he's folke-esque but way cooler and a little more rock-y, and he plays banjo and guitar and harmonica and has a band and everything. I look forward to his next set and am bringing a few friends with me. - Alex McMackin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AUDIENCE MEMBER VIA EMAIL: If I liked Van Morrison, I'd compare your songs to Van Morrison, but I don't like him and I did like your stuff a WHOLE LOT, so let me just say -- thanks for everything and let me know when you're playing again, I'll bring a whole buncha friends with me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OCULUS: A mixture of smart songs and non-mainstream vocalizing...Very recommended. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MUSICIANS ON THE INTERNET: It's hard to figure out what to say about Andrew Vladeck. I start to think about it and I get a brain strain -- a jumble of so many things - like - Andrew's having a party where Loudon Wainwright III is telling jokes to Groucho Marks when Bob Dylan shows up with bottle of tequila followed by Bruce Springsteen with the limes and salt. Then the fun begins..
