Artist History
In the summer of 1997 the group Quinteto Chá was born, the same year that the album Buena Vista Social Club was released. Wether a coincidence or destiny, the group Quinteto Chá has been since reviving this cuban style of music called “SON“. The style SON meaning „sonido“ is one of the traditional musical forms of the spanish speaking caribean and contains the best synthesis of the afro-hispanic cultural components characterising this region. The founder musicians are guitarrist-lead singer songwriter Luis Angulo, Henry Eberhard on flute and percussion, bassist Irmgard Lerch, and Günter Kleinmann on tres guitar.Unlike many traditional son groups this unique and original formation bring with their own ingredients the deep rooted forms of the old traditional style into a modern and contemporary context.Quinteto Chá´s deep love and passion for this rhytmic and temperamental music pays a great tribute to its musicians and the likes who contributed to the shaping of cuban music, history and culture. |
