Artist description
Trained at Berklee College, this tenor saxophonist released his first solo CD in '98, entitled Oceans
and Skys, featuring veteran drummer Bob Moses. Paulo who was born in Brazil grew
up listening to a lot of samba and bossa nova, although he cites Coltrane as one of his major influences.
Playing straight ahead jazz for over 12 years, he's performed at hot-spots such as the Blue Note, Iridium, Smalls, among others in
New York City, Bourbon Street Club in Brazil, and Jazz Festivals in Brazil, Europe and the US. His band can regularly be seen at leading Jazz spots
throughout the Boston area.
Although he is now a native Bostonian, Paulo performs in Brazil at least three time a year by
popular demand. He was most recently chosen as the 1st place winner in the musicians category
in a talent search conducted by Budweiser and N Coded Music |

Press Reviews
On Danay's self-recorded and distributed CD, Oceans and Skys,he pushes himself ans both a player and composer.
He writes catchy modern Brazilian samba melodies, sometimes balancing them with unusual chording, and experiments with an offbeat take on Thelonius Monk's "Evidence" done as a spare duo with his tenor and the tribal percussion accompaniment of local drum Legend Bob Moses.
"That was Bob's idea" says Danay, explaining that working with Moses tended to push things into a more experimental direction.
The CD also includes a bizarre reworking of "Stella by Starlight" written and overseen by Moses himself entitled "Bella by Startalk." - David Wildman, Boston Globe
"This is fabulous band, we expect to see people doing the Salsa and Merengue in the Aisle." Lisa Giufree, The Foxboro Reporter
"Jazz outfits take audience on fun trip. The front man Paulo Danay on tenor sax, whose dizzying spiral of notes at the crescendo of one song was absolutely beautiful". By Kimberlane Alessandro, The Sun Chronicle
" Paulo Danay (winner of the Bud: jamming with master competition) gives you an after work cool down while he serenades you with the sound of main stream Jazz" by Slade's Jazz & Grill |
