Artist description
Individually playing with successful bands, fate brought four extremely talented musicians together to form the ultimate Power Pop/Rock band, Jacar. Together they believe in the music and in one another. Jacar is constantly working on new songs with the strong commitment of fulfilling their desires and dreams. They are excited about what the future holds in store for them. Brett Shuemaker, drummer/background vocals and Rick Weller, guitarist, were members of the proven Corday and the Curious. Rick also played with the successful Lousy Little Gods. Justin Meacham, bassist, records and performs with many top-jazz musicians in the LA area. Denise Carrejo is an amazing singer/songwriter/keyboardist who writes songs as a reflection of her innermost thoughts and feelings. Her breathtaking performance on stage is not to be missed and will leave you mesmerized! Jacar's music can best be described as "Power Pop" - Tori Amos with a kick, combined with a sound comparable to Black Crowes and Fiona Apple. Other Influences include U2, Elton John, The Wallflowers and Sheryl Crow. Denise's powerful, yet expressive vocals have been compared to Pat Benatar and the legendary Janis Joplin. Filled with enthusiasm, Jacar will continue to tour Southern California as they promote their newly released CD, "Dive In". Be sure to catch this band when they come to your city. They are destined for great success! |

Press Reviews
JACAR poised for success By ROBERT KINSLER - The OC Register, October 23, 1998 This year has marked another strong year for the local music scene, with styles outside of punk and ska looming to command the next wave of success stories. Pop and funk-rock artists, in particular, seem ready to position themselves for commercial success. One of the most notable is JACAR, a band whose members come from Orange and L.A. counties. The band turns in a strong performance on its 10-song debut "Dive In." The group's track "Closer" is a strong, commercial pop-rock track while "Passion" recalls the pop-meets-classical elements of a Tori Amos ballad. However, even while much of JACAR's influences are apparent, the band manages to present a distinctive sound. "Dive In" is a MUST-HAVE album!, April 9, 1999 Reviewer: penguinlady@yahoo.com from Los Angeles, CaliforniaA beautiful 34-second Chopin piece is the opening track, but don't let it trick you into thinking that this album should've been listed in the classical music section. Believe me when I say, THIS ALBUM ROCKS! Filled with catchy lyrics, expressive vocals, fiery guitar solos, and powerful keyboard, bass, and drums sections, this album quickly grabs your attention and holds on tightly until the last note fades. All of the 10 songs are strong, but like anyone else, I too have my personal favorites. Namely, the ballad "Passion" clearly lives up to its name with its outpouring of passionate questioning and haunting guitar solo. I get chills every time I hear this song. "Closer" hits with a hefty punch and its hooky chorus stuck in my head for months. Another ballad, "To The Sun", instantly gained my sympathy for the song's character and I found myself "hoping the sun comes out today". "Why Do I Do" had my feet happily tapping along with it's infectious beat and bass lines. Last, but by no means least, "I'll Be True To You" oozes sensuality with its slow, bluesy feel."Dive In" is truly a listening pleasure from beginning to end. I'm excited to have come across this album and consider it to be amongst my all-time favorite albums. I'm sure that once you hear it, it'll become one of your favorites too. |
