Artist History
Are you finding yourself in the mood for something different and exciting to do on a Saturday night? Well if you put your ear to the ground you might catch the buzz from one of San Diego's most talked about band, The Fiction Engine. The name catches most people's attention right away, and curiosity overwhelms the psyche. The music is just as inventive as the namesake, giving an upbeat rock tempo that has people dancing at every show. Taking the stage with a keen fashion sense and hip attitude, they prepare to demolish any sense of doubt. Their songs and stage dynamics ignite, fusing high-energy fun with slow melodic tunes that make you feel and groove. You get a little bit of everything at each show making it a memorable and unique experience.
The Fiction Engine was created by Frank J. Thaheld (Lead Vocals) and Jason Rigdon (Lead Guitars). Over their 5 years and humble beginnings from a Mission Beach Living Room to huge venues such as Street Scene and The Suzuki Rock and Roll Marathon, The Engine has come a long way. With the addition of Nate Million(Drums & Cymbals) and Andrew Guiant (Bass Guitar), the last two years for The Fiction Engine have only proved the potential and professionalism of these four talented guys.
Some big influences I have noticed from the band span from classic rock era (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones), late 70's (Police, U2, The Smiths), to more current sensations (Afghan Whigs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Live, Dandy Worhols).
The Fiction Engine is currently finishing a follow up EP to their debut self titled CD released last year. The band is excited about the new EP stating, "It has a fresh style which shows our growth over this last year without departing from our original sound." Look for the new Fiction Engine EP in stores summer of 2001.

Press Reviews
Fiction Engine
A new twist on brit pop rock.
Most people don't think of brit pop rock as ethereal. Yet apparently, The Fiction Engine does. Even though its lead vocalist has some serious Depeche Mode moments in front of the microphone, the band credits the genre as its most seminal influence. They do stay close to the boy-meets-girl-boy-loses-girl theme that dominates top pop lists. Yet as lyricists, the bandmembers infuse far more poetic imagery and complexity into their songs than you find in the typical pop number. In a world where musicians must squeeze themselves into a category if they want any airplay, such contradictions should come as little surprise. Overall The Fiction Engine churns out good music, and that's what matters. -- Dylan Roberts
