    Artist History
Bob Thiele, Jr.’s career within the entertainment industry is successfully translated by his insights into both the creative and executive ends of the business. As an accomplished producer, songwriter and music executive, Thiele stands apart in that his drive in each of these arenas has prompted accolades ranging from Grammy awards to multi-genre production credits, alongside A&R success and top-level experience within the emerging online industry. The bottom line, according to Thiele, is his desire to work with credible, forthright music. Accordingly, this objective reflects as clearly in his pop success as it does rock, R&B, alternative, gospel and other areas. His producing/songwriting credits encompass Grammy awarded projects by Bonnie Raitt and Pops Staples, multi-platinum releases by Joe Cocker and Bette Midler (among others), and serve as a link between artists as creatively disparate as BBMak, Beth Hart, Widespread Panic, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Much of this identity has to do with his background. Growing up in New York, Bob was encouraged by the experience of his father, renowned A&R executive Bob Thiele. Consequently, after being influenced by his dad’s work with artists such as John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson, composition and recognition--blind to format--served as a solid foundation. Throughout his teens, Bob pursued his own talents: playing guitar around New York, recording in his twenties, and finally relocating to Los Angeles to capitalize on his songwriting talents. "Songwriting has always been one of the best ways for me to be able to connect with my creative passions." Others have connected as well, be they the aforementioned artists, or others such as Aaron Neville, Ray Charles, English pop diva Louise, and reggae legend Barrington Levy.Alongside his solid knowledge of the creative, publishing and production facets of the industry, Bob also ran the West Coast A&R division of EMI Records for two years (‘95-’97) and, most recently served as President of the Music Division of IAM.com. The latter afforded Bob the opportunity to work within the specific landscape of the online revolution. (He was also integral to the raising of over 49 million dollars for IAM.com’s start-up.) Both ventures showcased Thiele’s ability to define and empower his musical perceptions within highly commercial/business-oriented roles. They also illustrate his ability to operate within a leadership position—whether making confident decisions on behalf of an international company, coordinating with co-executives and other departments or successfully governing a support staff.Thiele’s production, writing and executive insights are as evident now as ever. Recent projects include working with artists such as BBMak, French rapper MC Solaar, RCA recording artist Leah Andreone, participation on the Dawson’s Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell soundtracks, as well as Universal recording artist Kim Ferron, whose much anticipated debut will be released in January of 2001.
