    Artist History
    Tomm Roland, percussionist, holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from California State University, Sacramento and a D.M.A. in percussion performance from SUNY Stony Brook. His principal teachers have been Ronald Holloway, Dan Kennedy, and Raymond DesRoches. He has performed in a variety of musical settings including solo recitals, symphony orchestras, contemporary chamber ensembles, musical theater, numerous rock bands, and world music ensembles. Tomm has given solo performances throughout California, New Jersey, Nebraska, New York, and at the American Consulate in Chennai, India. In 1998 he was awarded a Fulbright grant to study the classical drumming of Southern India where he studied mridangham and thavil with Sri T.H. Subashchandren and Sri K. Sekar. Tomm has also participated in a variety of music festivals including Music From Bear Valley, The Festival of New American Music, and the Percussion Currents festival in San Francisco. In addition to local sessions for various Sacramento area rock bands he has recorded for Summit and Capstone records, with his most recent recordings being two CRI releases, Sonata de Camera by Charles Jones and Paramo by Ricardo Muldoon. Tomm is currently an Assistant Professor of Percussion/Multi-Cultural Affairs at the University of Nebraska, Omaha where he directs the percussion program and teaches courses in musics of the world. In a short time Tomm has become an active performer in the Omaha music community. He has participated in several UNO performances including solo recitals, the Collage concert series, and the Masters and Music series. Off campus Tomm has given performances ranging from classical South Indian music to acting as a substitute percussionist with the Omaha Symphony.
